The Scarlet Women - Chapter 8-25?Sherlock pulled John out the door, nearly colliding with a young blonde man standing in the hallway with a startled expression on his face. The young man quickly sidestepped, muttered 'sorry' and stepped through the open door into Presbury's office.

John slipped back the curtain and went away from the window from which he had been watching the conversation between Catherine and Mycroft. Fire already crackled merrily in the carmine in the living room of his apartment and filled the room with comfortable warmth.
John turned to Sherlock, who- as so often- was lying on the sofa under the Smiley and stared thoughtfully at the ceiling.

Angels in London - Pt 3 and Case ReportInside of a cab that John had to hail, The Doctor looked between Sherlock and John. He was no fool, he could sense something between them, but it felt complicated. And not even complicated in the way he was used to between some of his companions and him. He specifically remembered Rose and Martha when thinking, but he quickly made his mind push the thought away. Now wasn't the best time to be dwelling on them.
He watched as John looked over to Sherlock as if to say something, but the cab suddenly screeched to a halt. Sherlock grabbed the door and John's arm as they were thrust forward. Regardless of this, John still ended up in The Doctor's lap. Before The Doctor could make a joke about it to his friends, the cab driver yelled, "Who the hell put a statue in the center of the street?!"
All three of the riders' eyes widened. "What?!"

London was covered in its usual grey clouds and hazy mist that might come from the North Sea or the Thames. The air was permeated by a heavy humidity that made Catherine shiver, but that was nothing compared to the discomfort, which was caused by Mycrofts look. She only had met Mycroft Holmes twice yet, but it was this expression with which he had always watched her. It was a mix of calculation and a cold smile that brought Catherine goose flesh.

Steven Moffat: Sherlock made Benedict Cumberbatch sexy
Co-creator of hit BBC detective drama says the meeting of part and actor made geeky appealing

It was playing pondering polymath Sherlock Holmes that made Benedict Cumberbatch a sex symbol, according to the co-writer of BBC1's Sherlock, Steven Moffat.

"It wasn’t like, in all fairness, anyone was salivating over Benedict before he was Sherlock Holmes," he told the University Observer when asked about the newfound popularity of the show among women. "It's a meeting of part and actor I think that makes geeky sexy."

Moffat admitted "Sherlock is probably the first time that the Sherlock Holmes demographic has been female skewed" but he noted that "he’s [Cumberbatch] not the first handsome man to play Sherlock Holmes, oddly enough."

Cumberbatch recently topped a poll of over 27,000 RadioTimes.com readers as the most desirable television star to take on a Valentine's Day date, receiving more than 12,000 votes to beat former Doctor Who star David Tennant into second place.  Fellow Sherlock star Louise Brealey - who plays lab technician Molly Hooper - came top of the female poll with 1,625 votes.

And so perhaps the words of Sherlock's very own Irene Adler are true: "Brainy is the new sexy."
